Based on publicly available CDW pricing from hire companies in our area. All CDW products reduce your excess, not eliminate it.
*Based on publicly available CDW and excess reduction pricing from independent and national vehicle hire companies operating in Surrey, Hampshire and Kent, reviewed March 2026. CDW products differ between providers: some reduce excess to a fixed amount (e.g. £250), while Kendall Cars CDW reduces excess to the deposit amount. Cover levels, exclusions and terms are not identical across providers. Customers should review full terms before purchasing.
What is Collision Damage Waiver?
CDW is something you can choose to add when you hire a vehicle from us. If the vehicle gets accidentally damaged during your rental, CDW reduces the amount you'd be responsible for down to your deposit amount.
CDW does not reduce your liability to zero. You'd still be liable up to the value of your deposit. But it takes a big chunk off what you'd otherwise have to pay.
Loss of use charges: completely waived
If a hire vehicle is off the road because of damage, we can normally charge a daily "loss of use" fee for the time it's unavailable. This can be up to 14 days. With CDW, this charge is waived entirely. That alone can save you a significant amount.
Please note: CDW covers accidental damage to the hire vehicle only. It does not cover theft, attempted theft, personal belongings, third-party claims, damage caused by misuse or negligence, overhead or roof damage, tyres, windscreens, interior damage, lost or damaged keys, or misfuelling. If the vehicle is driven outside the terms of the rental agreement, CDW will not apply. Full exclusions are detailed in your hire agreement.

Need an Additional Driver?
You can add extra named drivers to your rental. They'll need to meet our standard hire requirements.
Additional drivers are covered under the same policy as the named hirer for the whole rental.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to buy CDW? +
No. CDW is completely optional. Every rental already includes standard insurance cover. CDW is an extra that reduces your excess further, and it's always your choice whether to add it.
What exactly does CDW cover? +
CDW brings your excess down to the deposit amount held on your account. It doesn't bring your liability to zero. It also waives any "loss of use" charges (the daily fee that can apply for up to 14 days while a damaged vehicle is being repaired). CDW doesn't cover theft, personal belongings, third-party claims, damage from misuse, or anything outside the terms of your rental agreement. Full details are in your hire agreement.
What's not covered by CDW? +
CDW covers accidental collision damage to the vehicle body. However, the following are not covered even with CDW in place:
• Negligent damage (damage caused by careless or reckless use of the vehicle)
• Overhead damage, including height restriction impacts, bridges and barriers
• Damage to tyres and wing mirrors
• Interior damage to the vehicle
• Windscreen damage
• Damage caused by or to third party property
• Damage caused by attachment of roof racks, cycle carriers, trailers or snow chains
• Water damage or flooding
• Lost, stolen or damaged keys
• Misfuelling
• Theft of the vehicle
Please refer to your rental agreement for the full list of exclusions and terms. If you're unsure about anything, just ask our team when you collect your vehicle.
Why have the prices gone up? +
Insurance and repair costs keep rising across the whole hire industry. We've made a small increase to CDW rather than putting up our base hire rates, which would have hit every customer, not just those who choose extra cover. This way, our standard rental prices stay competitive for everyone, and customers who want CDW still get it at well below typical industry rates.
Can I add CDW partway through my rental? +
Unfortunately not. CDW needs to be taken out at the start of your hire and runs for the full rental period. If you're not sure, just ask our team when you pick up your vehicle and they'll talk you through it.
How do your rates compare to other companies? +
We regularly check CDW pricing from other hire companies in our area. Many charge £10 to £42 per day for their excess reduction products. Our rates start at £8. We'd always encourage you to compare and see for yourself.
Ready to book?
You can add CDW at checkout, or give us a ring if you'd like to talk it through first.
